Cadets boys, girls sweep at SAC Championships
Concordia swept the boys and girls cross country team titles at the SAC Championships at Northrop on Saturday.
The boys were led by a runner-up finish from Reece Gibson (16 minutes, 0.8 seconds) and Matthew Ruppert finished fifth in 16:52.4.
Snider's Jesse Hamlin won the boys race in 15:59.9 as the Panthers finished second by one point, 51-52. Northrop was third with 53 with a 3-4 finish from Jack Brokaw (16:36.7) and Conner Bayne (16:45.7).
Erin Strzelecki of Bishop Dwenger won the girls race in 19:09.2, more than 10 seconds ahead of runner-up Emily McManus of Bishop Luers (19:20.8). South Side's Alexis Grider was third in 19:42.7.
Concordia edged out the Saints on a sixth-runner tie-breaker thanks to Carmen Trier finishing in 12th overall (11th for team scoring) in 20:30.
NORTHEAST EIGHT CHAMPIONSHIPS: Tyler Schwartz of DeKalb won the girls race in 17:45.2 ahead of East Noble's Kayla McCulloch's 18:18.5. East Noble won the girls team title 49-60 over host Huntington North.
New Haven's Brock Spahr won the boys race in 16:13.2, edging Bellmont's Justin Gephart (16:15.7). The Vikings won the boys team title 45-62 over the Braves.
ACAC CHAMPIONSHIPS: At South Adams, the Starfires' Wyatt Miller won the boys race in 16:55.97 ahead of teammate Victor Vasquez (17:09.48). Heritage won the team title 39-44 over the Starfires as the Patriots had third-, fourth- and sixth-place finishes from Devin Schmenk (17:19.34), Jack Beauchot (17:23.25) and Andrew Kohrman (17:27.07).
The South Adams girls won the conference title 21-96 over Heritage as the Starfires went 1-2-4-5 led by Kallee Patch's 20:17.01.
NECC CHAMPIONSHIPS: Westview dominated the boys race with six runners in the top eight to win 19-52 over West Noble. The Warriors' Matthew Yoder won the race in 15:53.32 and the Chargers were led by Dakota Thompson's third-place finish (16:10.26) and Jordan Shoemaker's sixth-place finish (16:41.68).
Angola won the girls team title 53-56 over West Noble. Samantha Biernat led the Hornets in 20:22.17 for fourth place. Yarency Murillo finished runner-up in 19:53.31 for the Chargers. Fairfield's Carol Haldeman won the race in 19:36.23.
NLC CHAMPIONSHIPS: Warsaw's Mia Beckham won the girls race in 18:39.81 to lead the Tigers to a runner-up team finish. Northridge won 43-48 and Wawasee was sixth led by McKenzie Smith's 14th-place finish in 20:36.29.
