Cavs roll to tennis sectional win

Kyra Foster avenged her only loss of the season and helped the Canterbury girls tennis team to a 5-0 victory over Bishop Luers in the championship round of the Homestead Sectional on Thursday.

Foster (23-1) defeated Caroline Rahrig 6-0, 6-2, and the Cavaliers dropped only six games total.

Samantha Becker won at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-0, over Eileen Bond. At No. 3 singles, Lauren Kim beat Leah Stoffel 6-0, 6-2.

In doubles, Carmen Gnagy and Brianna Diehl beat Rose Hoskins and Carla Choka 6-2, 6-0, and Jiya Kashyap and Jenna Filus defeated Gabrielle Buday and Casey Woodfill 6-0, 6-0.

ADAMS CENTRAL 5, BELLMONT 0: In a sectional at Ossian, the doubles matches featured a three-set match and one with a tiebreaker. Randi Bebout and Sarah Liter beat Mogan Ellsworth and Lizah Okoniewski 6-3, 4-6, 6-1. Kyndal Roe and Lily Kintz defeated Courtney Schultz and Megan McBarnes 7-6 (7-0), 6-2.

At No. 1 singles, Jenna Lehman beat Brielle Adams 6-2, 6-0.

CONCORDIA 5, SOUTH SIDE 0: At Concordia, Charity Felton won at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-0 over Angela Mamani. At No. 2 singles, Hannah Gerig beat Olivia Vosmeier 6-1, 6-0. The Cadets dropped only five games in the other three sectional matches.

BISHOP DWENGER 5, NEW HAVEN 1: At Concordia, the Saints' Abby Oswald won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles over Lindsey DeCamp. At No. 2 singles, Dwenger's Cassidy Klinker got a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Andrea Jordan. New Haven won at No. 3 singles, where Erica Miller beat Eden Carrison-Kitch 6-0, 6-2.

ANGOLA 3, FREMONT 2: At Angola, the Hornets got a sectional victory at No. 1 singles, where Jadyn Davis defeated Adrianna McDowell 6-0, 6-3, and at No. 2 singles, where Anna Fuller bested Jessica Behrman 6-1, 6-0. Fremont's Brooke Sullivan won 6-1, 6-0 against Bailey Pelliccia at No. 3 singles. Angola's doubles team of Maddie Mory and Shelbe Clester were victorious at No. 2, beating Chelsea VanAken and Karen Carmona 6-3, 6-4.

CARROLL 5, BLACKHAWK CHRISTIAN 0: At Carroll, the closest sectional match came at No. 2 doubles, where Hannah Wallace and Katie Beier defeated Allison Nagy and Mallory Hicks 6-4, 7-5. Sydney Jackson got a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles over Danielle Williams.

SNIDER 5, NORTHROP 0: At Carroll, Chloe Smithley won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles over Alyssa Nolan. The closest match, at No. 2 doubles, saw Taylor Davis and Hannah Stone beat Abigail Wyman and Thi Pham 6-3, 6-4.
