Tech track team unveils recruits
Indiana Tech track and field head coach Doug Edgar announced the 2018-19 recruiting class on Monday.
Headlining the 50-man incoming class is Qawtavis Johnson, a transfer from Central Christian College of Kansas. He has personal bests of 6.60 seconds in the 60-meter dash, 10.34 in the 100 and 21.38 in the 200.
Other transfers from Central Christian include Derek Whit (48.7 in the 400) and Malik Johnson (24-feet, 6-inch long jump, 49 feet triple jump).
Locally, Whitko's Alex Wilson joins the sprints squad and in-state recruits include Kyle Markland (sprints, Franklin Central), Jamison Baker (throws, Tippecanoe Valley), Keyshawn McGill (jumps, Michigan City), Steve Hutcheson (long sprints, Cascade) and Kyron Marshall (Lake Central).
The Warriors lose seven All-Americans to graduation with Jordan Partee, Alain Dixon, Tyler Williams, Justin McKenzie and Malik Stuart in the field events and Luke Runyan and Davonta Beckham in middle-distance.
The Indiana Tech women's soccer team released its schedule for the 2018 season that has 10 home games and three teams that finished ranked in the final poll of the 2017 season.
The Warriors will play six nonconference games against Crossroads League teams (Bethel, Goshen, Marian, Saint Francis, Taylor and Indiana Wesleyan). They'll also play two foes from the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (Trinity Christian and Judson).
The Warriors play host to in-state rival Bethel on Aug. 18 as part of the Shindigz National Soccer Festival in a scrimmage while the regular-season opener takes place on Aug. 24 at Warrior Athletic Field against Goshen.
The annual Fort Wayne derby will take place Sept. 8 when the Warriors play host to Saint Francis in their crosstown battle. The regular season ends at home Oct. 27 against Michigan-Dearborn.
