Speed helps Hoosiers top Boilers

The Indiana women's basketball team took advantage of Purdue's slow start to win 72-54 at Assembly Hall on Saturday.

The Hoosiers (8-9, 1-3 Big Ten) jumped to a 18-5 lead after the first quarter, helped by the Boilermakers (10-7, 1-2) shooting 2 of 12 from the field and committing seven turnovers.

Tyra Buss led the Hoosiers with 19 points, Kym Royster added 17, Amanda Cahill 16 and Jaelynn Penn 11.

Purdue senior Andreona Keys scored her 1,000th career point in the loss as she led the team with 17 points. Ae'Rianna Harris added 16 points.

BALL STATE 84, BOWLING GREEN 73: In Bowling Green, Ohio, Carmen Grande led five Cardinals (13-1, 2-1 MAC) in double-figure scoring with 16 points. Jasmin Samz and Moriah Monaco each added 14 points and Destiny Washington and Maliah Howard-Bass each scored 10. 

DENVER 73, IPFW 55: At the Gates Center, Hannah Albrecht scored 21 points but it was enough to keep the Mastodons (3-13, 0-3) winless in Summit League play. DeJour Young added 10.

Claire Gritt scored 17 points for the Pioneers (10-7, 1-1). 

MOUNT VERNON NAZARENE 62, SAINT FRANCIS 58: In Mount Vernon, Ohio, the Cougars (11-7, 3-3 Crossroads League) fell despite 24 points and 11 rebounds from Kara Gerka. Josie Murphy added 10 points in the loss.

Taylor Gregory scored 18 for Mount Vernon (12-6, 4-2).

GRACE 81, GOSHEN 69: In Goshen, the Lancers (9-9, 3-3 Crossroads League) outscored the Maple Leafs (1-17, 0-6) 28-18 in the fourth quarter to distance themselves. 

Vironnica Drake scored 18, Micaela Box had 17 and Brooke Sugg added 16 for the Lancers.

HUNTINGTON 57, SPRING ARBOR 41: In Spring Arbor, Michigan, Casey Morton scored 13 points and Brooke Saylor and Erin Mohr each added 12 for the Foresters (9-7, 2-3 Crossroads League).

INDIANA TECH 80, NORTHWESTERN OHIO 46: In Lima, Ohio, the Warriors (17-2, 8-1 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference) won their eighth straight as Haley Cook scored a game-high 19 points. Kendall Knapke scored 16, Keanna Gary had 12 points and 10 rebounds and DeAnn Kauffman had 10 points. 

TRINE 68, OLIVET 43: In Angola, the Thunder (12-2, 4-1 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association) outscored the Comets (5-9, 1-5) 41-20 in the second half. 

Brandi Dawson had her second straight double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Katy Steers scored 11 and Ashley Elliott had 10.

HANOVER 81, MANCHESTER 62: In North Manchester, Faith-Alexis Graham scored 16, Sara Carder added 11 and Mikalia Taylor 10 for the Spartans (3-10, 2-4 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference).
