Trine running back tops 200 yards in win

Trine opened Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play Saturday with a 56-21 win over Albion in Albion, Michigan, that included a milestone performance by Lamar Carswell.
The junior running back had a season-high 204 yards on 10 carries and pushed his career rushing total to 2,092 yards, becoming just the fifth player in Trine history to reach 2,000.
Carswell scored three touchdowns as the Thunder (5-0, 1-0 MIAA) built a 49-7 halftime lead. Jeffery Barnett also had three first-half scores, all on passes from Evan Wyse, who completed 5 of 6 attempts for 172 yards.
Albion (1-4, 0-1) suffered four interceptions. Marcus Winters had two of those picks to raise his season total to five.
MANCHESTER 23, DEFIANCE 21: In Defiance, Ohio, freshman Kody Graham made a 22-yard field goal with 24 seconds to play as the Spartans (2-3, 1-2 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference) rallied from a 21-14 deficit.
Graham had missed the extra-point kick with 1:08 left after Jared Bourff caught a 4-yard touchdown pass from Alex Downard.
Defiance (1-5, 1-3) failed to recover an onside kick that set up the winning drive.
Downard completed 17 of 36 throws for 174 yards.
AKRON 31, BALL STATE 3: In Akron, Ohio, Thomas Woodson tossed two touchdown passes and John Lako returned an interception 35 yards as the Zips ripped the Cardinals, who have been outscored 86-6 in back-to-back road losses.
Woodson opened the scoring for Akron (3-3, 2-0 Mid-American Conference) with a 24-yard strike to Austin Wolf on an eight-play, 75-yard drive to begin the game.
Jack Milas completed 21 of 41 passes for 176 yards and was picked off three times for the Cardinals (2-4, 0-2), and Caleb Huntley carried 25 times for 129 yards.
BUTLER 44, MOREHEAD STATE 6: In Morehead, Kentucky, Duvante Lane scored three rushing touchdowns and rushed for 99 yards to lead the Bulldogs (3-3, 1-2 Pioneer League).
NORTH DAKOTA STATE 52, INDIANA STATE 0: In Terre Haute, Easton Stick passed for 191 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Bison (5-0, 2-0 Missouri Valley Conference) to its FCS-best 11th straight road victory.
The Sycamores fell to 0-5, 0-2 MVC.
CAMPBELL 49, VALPARAISO 10: In Buies Creek, North Carolina, Daniel Smith tossed four touchdown passes to lead the Camels (4-2, 3-0 Pioneer Football League) over the Crusaders (2-4, 1-2).
