Tech, Huntington baseball victorious

The Indiana Tech and Huntington baseball teams won their opening games at the NAIA National Tournament on Monday.

Indiana Tech (41-12) defeated Bryan 17-10, boosted by a seven-run eighth inning at Bill Doenges Memorial Stadium in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.

Chris Gaynor drove in the go-ahead run in the bottom half of the eighth as his single plated David Barksdale.

Pinch hitter Taylor Nychyk drew a bases-loaded walk on a full count to make it 12-10 while Dante Biagini added two more runs with a double to left center.

Huntington defeated Saint Thomas 12-6 at Faulkner in Montgomery, Alabama.

Will Coursen-Carr hit a 2-out, 3-run home run over the left field wall to give the Foresters a 6-5 lead in the seventh, bringing in Shea Beauchamp and Dylan Henricks.

Tyler Zimske then scored on wild pitch to push the score to 7-5.

In the eighth, Adam Roser brought in two runs to make it 9-5.

Saint Thomas scored its final run in the bottom of the eighth and the Foresters followed it up as Michael Crowley drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 10-6 in the ninth.

Roser followed that with a single to right to bring in two more for the final margin.

Indiana Tech plays at 3:30 p.m. today against Oklahoma Wesleyan while Huntington faces either Faulkner or Truett McConnell.

The Foresters will also play at 3:30 p.m. today.
