Tech, Huntington set to start NAIA

The Indiana Tech and Huntington baseball teams begin the NAIA National Championship Opening round today as members of the 45-team field the NAIA announced May 11.

The No. 18-ranked Warriors (41-12) are the No. 2 seed in the Bartlesville Bracket hosted by Oklahoma Wesleyan.

They face No. 3-seed Bryan at 3 p.m. today.

The host Eagles are the top seed in the bracket, followed by Indiana Tech, Bryan, Midland and Saint Ambrose.

Matt Bandor leads the Warriors, hitting .450 in 149 at-bats, Tighe Koehring drove in 61 runs, Glen McClain has 60 RBI on 86 hits and Charlie Sipe has scored 13 of his 14 runs on homers.

The Warriors fell to No. 4-seed Concordia and No. 1-seed Northwestern Ohio in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Tournament but still received an at-large bid to the national tournament.

Huntington is the No. 3 seed in the Montgomery, Alabama Bracket hosted by top-seed Faulkner.

The Foresters (33-11) advanced to the national tournament as Crossroads League regular season champions and tournament champions and will play No. 2-seed Saint Thomas at 3:30 p.m. today.

Cumberlands is No. 4 and Truett McConnell is No. 5 in the Montgomery bracket.

The Foresters have outscored their opponents 210-123 this season with the majority of their runs coming in the fourth inning, 34-12.

Dalton Combs leads in batting average at .386, and .448 on-base percentage.
