CHEERS (again) to Fort Wayne for being mentioned or featured in the course of a major TV program. On the Nov. 7 episode of “NCIS,” the Allen County Courthouse, the Art Deco-styled Old National Bank, Salin Bank and PNC Bank are clearly visible in a beautiful overhead shot of downtown prior to main character Jethro Gibbs' courtroom testimony (filmed on a Hollywood studio set).

In the last four years, the Summit City and Allen County have been answers or clues on “Jeopardy!” at least three times, as reported on the Nov. 4 Perspective page. So what's next? Maybe a new series: “NCIS: Fort Wayne” (shot on location)? Why, of course.

'Practice mindfulness'

I am so over the complainers and negative people who offer their opinions. Maybe they need to practice mindfulness instead of mindlessness. Everyone has opinions; however, do not make that your prerogative in life. Bitterness is self-destructive and not impressive to anyone.

Trump unwittingly reveals unfitness

I'm not a fan of Donald Trump, nor am I a fan of how the National Rifle Association stokes fear among its adherents to the Second Amendment. However, regarding the Sutherland Springs, Texas, shootings, Trump said something with which I agree and has unwittingly stated the reason why he should be removed from office by invoking the 25th Amendment.

Through his display of poor impulse control through the use of his Twitter account and other displays of abhorrent behavior over the course of his life (pathologically lying, boasting of sexually predatory behavior and inciting violence at his campaign rallies, to name a few), Trump has repeatedly shown how mentally and emotionally unstable he is. The human carnage of all the mass shootings over the last decade (at least) is nothing compared to the annihilation that a deranged individual like Trump can heap upon our planet, given that he doesn't have just a cadre of guns at his disposal. He has a nuclear arsenal and is commander in chief of the most technologically advanced military in the world.

People are correct when they say, “Guns don't kill people, people kill people.” However, I find it a disturbing thought to allow the proliferation of guns among a population poorly equipped to manage their anger. Given the emotional volatility of the current occupant of the White House, it's even more disturbing that he has these weapons at his disposal.

'Absolutely no excuse'

On Oct. 28 on the front page of The Journal Gazette, the headlines read about a 19-year-old man facing murder charges in the death of his 3-month-old son.

It also quoted a sheriff's office statement that read: “He was a defenseless infant and there's absolutely no excuse for this.”

What is the difference from the nearly 60 million babies we have killed in our country through abortion? Only one thing, the 3-month-old was outside of the mother's womb.

The similarity is scary and troubling. The unborn babies are also defenseless infants and there's absolutely no excuse for this.
