EACS looks at building projects

ASHLEY SLOBODA | The Journal Gazette

The East Allen County Schools board on Tuesday got a glimpse of what building improvements the 2019 fiscal year might bring.

Projects are proposed at nearly every school building in addition to the districtwide renovations already underway. Along with bathroom updates, school-specific improvements include flooring, window, lighting and bleacher replacements.

Proposed districtwide projects address painting, smoke detectors and, among other aspects, asphalt.

Principals help prioritize the projects, knowing everything can't get done in a year, Superintendent Marilyn Hissong said. Building personnel also have input.

Board members said they were interested in contributing to the process.

“I think security is a big issue, too,” member Chris Baker said. The proposed multi-year plan budgets $50,000 for security camera upgrades/replacements through 2023.

The board is expected to review the entire budget Aug. 21.
