Back-to-school nights

Journal Gazette

Students at more than a dozen Fort Wayne schools don't have to wait until Tuesday, the first day of class, to go back to school.

Back-to-school nights began Thursday, with four more scheduled today and 10 more planned for Monday, according to a Fort Wayne Community Schools news release.

The events are planned through Sept. 13.

At back-to-school night, families may meet their children's teachers, visit their classrooms and kick off the academic year.

“Some schools open their doors before the first day of school to allow students to bring in their supplies and meet their teachers in advance,” the release said. “Families in several buildings will also get to see building improvements made over the summer.”

Other activities, including dinner, Title I meetings and the annual flower and plant show, are often combined with back-to-school night.
