An 8-year-old boy died Monday after he was struck by a car in Warsaw, police said.

The Warsaw Police Department said it learned from Warsaw Community Schools that the boy was a student and had been attending summer school.

Police were called at 1:47 p.m. Monday to Husky Trail at North Pointe Drive, near Harrison Elementary School.

Police believe the child was crossing Husky Trail at the crosswalk when he was struck by a car driven by Raven L. Loubert, 24, of Tippecanoe.

Lutheran EMS transported the boy from the scene and was en route to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne. Police said Lutheran EMS was diverted to Parkview Whitley Hospital in Columbia City where the boy was pronounced dead.

The boy will be identified after his family is notified, police said.

The incident remains under investigation by Warsaw police and the Kosciusko County Fatal Team.

“Warsaw Community Schools' staff and administration extend their thoughts and prayers to those affected,” a statement from the school district said. “The district is working alongside local law enforcement to assist in any way possible in their investigation.”
