Boy shot outside brother's home; taken to hospital

A young boy was shot early Friday outside a home where his brother lives in the 3700 block of Lafayette Street.
The boy was taken to a hospital by his mother who was called to take him, a police report said.
Officers were called to the home around 2 a.m. Friday after a report came in that a juvenile had been shot in front or outside of the home, according to a narrative supplied to The Journal Gazette by the Fort Wayne Police Department.
The boy's age was not in the report.
His older brother told police he heard a single gunshot somewhere out in front of the house and to the north and then his brother came to the front door and told him he'd been shot.
The older brother had the younger brother come in and sit on the couch, observing that the victim had a single gunshot wound to the inner right thigh and that his leg didn't appear to be bleeding very badly. The older brother then called his mother, who came and took his brother to the hospital, the narrative read.
The older brother told police he was the only one home who lived in the house, but several friends were there.
Police entered and two male friends emerged from the basement and two girls were found upstairs. One girl was a runaway and was taken to Allen County Juvenile Center; the other girl went home with her mother who was called to come get her, the narrative read.
A live round was found on the third stair step leading to the second floor and there were bullet holes on the northwest corner of the house.
Unable to get a search warrant, police released the people at the home, leaving the brother there alone.
