This story has been corrected to reflect that the business was not vacant at the time of the fire.
A raging fire destroyed a one-story business Wednesday on Lima Road near Till Road – the site of a shooting death in 2017.
Fort Wayne Deputy Fire Chief Adam O'Connor said no injuries were reported and the cause of the fire was under investigation.
The fire was reported by passing motorists about 1 p.m. at 9439 Lima Road where a sign indicates the business was Club Royal, O'Connor said.
Soon after the fire broke out, smoke was billowing high enough to be seen from Coldwater Road at Till Road. Two ladder trucks doused the fire from above. The rear section of the building was charred black with only timbers standing.
A neighbor across Lima Road who stood watching the fire told The Journal Gazette that an explosion preceded the fire. That could not be confirmed by fire officials.
The fire was brought under control in 50 minutes, according to the Fort Wayne Fire Department.
Since April 2012, the building has been owned by ADM Investments LLC, 1324 Springbrook Drive in Fort Wayne, according to Allen County assessor online records. The registered agent is Akram Dardagh Mahyar.
Before it became Club Royal, it was Le Bleu Diamond, where on April 9, 2017, Marcus Rogan, 22, of Fort Wayne was shot and killed inside the strip club. No one has been arrested in his death. When Rogan's sister, Kisha Rogan, heard the club had burned down, she said, in a Facebook post Wednesday, it brought tears to her eyes.
“I feel like my brother's spirit was finally set free. God is good. Thank U. Long Live Marcus Perry Rogan,” she wrote.
“My brother was murdered inside that club,” Rogan told The Journal Gazette.
