Man, 38, accused of killing puppy in alley

Fort Wayne police have arrested a man on felony charges alleging he killed a 3-month-old puppy.

David Lee Fowlkes, 38, was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, dealing marijuana and operating a vehicle without being licensed, according to a news release.

Fowlkes allegedly shot the puppy in an alley in the 4500 block of Bowser Avenue. Detectives were familiar with him from a robbery conviction. Fowlkes also had fugitive warrants from DeKalb County, the release said.

Shortly after 4 p.m. Monday, detectives conducted a traffic stop on Fowlkes in the 3600 block of Avondale Drive and took him into custody, police said.

Detectives found 261.9 grams of marijuana in nine 1-ounce baggies, a digital scale, a handgun and a spent shell casing.

Animal Care & Control is investigating the death.

Tips sought on man's location

Fort Wayne police are asking for help locating a man wanted for questioning in an ongoing investigation.

Leon Nathan Washington, 43, is described as 5 feet 7 inches tall, 180 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.

Anyone knowing his whereabouts is asked to call the Fort Wayne Detective Bureau at 427-1201.

No information about the investigation was released.
