Downtown standoff yields no suspects

JAMIE DUFFY | The Journal Gazette

Police surrounded a downtown home Wednesday looking for a robbery suspect, but found no one inside.

A SWAT team and other police officers converged around 3 p.m. at a house in the 400 block of West Brackenridge Street after receiving a tip that one of two suspects in a recent liquor store robbery was there.

The apartment was a block from Parkview Field and across from CityScape Flats townhomes.

Detectives believed the tip was credible, Michael Joyner, Fort Wayne Police Department public information officer, said. The tip was received after Fort Wayne police released images from security footage of an armed robbery at Belmont Beverage on East Tillman Road last week, Joyner added.

A witness at the scene said he's a neighbor, and that the suspect did live in an apartment in the house.

Upon entering the residence, police found the suspect was gone.

Police will continue their search as both suspects remain at large, Joyner said.
