Barricade ends; home occupant surrenders

Ashley Sloboda | The Journal Gazette

A well-being check on Grace Avenue turned into a barricade situation when the lone occupant, who was wanted on a warrant, retreated into the home and refused to leave, the Fort Wayne Police Department said in a statement.

The incident happened about 4:20 p.m. Sunday in the 800 block of Grace Avenue, where police officers were assisting Department of Child Services employees with a well-being check of a child, police reported.

Members of two special units - the crisis response team and the emergency services team - were called to assist with efforts to get the person to surrender, police said.

The person eventually exited and was taken into custody without incident, police said.
