Fire damages downtown building in LaGrange

Associated Press

LAGRANGE, Ind. – Fire has badly damaged downtown business buildings in a northern Indiana town, sending a large plume of smoke into the sky.

The fire broke out Tuesday morning in downtown LaGrange and burned for hours as fire crews from several surrounding communities joined in trying to get it extinguished.

Smoke poured from the buildings housing a Family Dollar store and a sporting goods retailer. They are in a row of older buildings across the street from the LaGrange County Courthouse in the town about 40 miles east of South Bend.

No injuries were immediately reported.
