FWCS staff plans home visits today

For the seventh year, Fort Wayne Community Schools employees will visit homes throughout the district from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. today to connect with families and remind them to complete online pre-registration, according to a news release Wednesday.

“Our staff members enjoy getting out to see our families, and the children love to see their teachers, assistants and principals arrive at their house,” Superintendent Wendy Robinson said in a statement. “We are a part of this community, and we want to make sure our families don't feel forgotten during the summer months.”

Online pre-registration is available to current families through July 8 via the MyFWCS parent portal at www.fortwayneschools.org. It lets families go through a rapid registration line during in-school registration.

In-school registration will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 27 and noon to 7 p.m. July 30. Parents must bring a photo ID and two proofs of residence. New families can register any time at the Family and Community Engagement Center, 230 E. Douglas Ave.

VA to celebrate Army's birthday

The VA Northern Indiana Health Care System will celebrate the Army's 243rd birthday from noon to 1 p.m. today at its Fort Wayne, Marion and Mishawaka sites.

The Fort Wayne celebration will be in the auditorium of the medical center at 2121 Lake Ave. Veterans are invited for a cake-cutting ceremony and refreshments. Tables will be available for veterans to display photos, letters, uniforms and other memorabilia.
