County commits funding to Ryan Road improvements

ROSA SALTER RODRIGUEZ | The Journal Gazette

Despite a change in plans by a major industry that would have benefited from the road project, the Allen County Redevelopment Commission will commit up to $500,000 to improve Ryan Road from Dawkins Road to U.S. 24.

The go-ahead was given during a meeting Tuesday to insure the local portion of financing would be available so that federal and state highway funds could flow to the project.

The project was expected to cost $10 million, but the bids came in at $8.4 million, with just under 70 percent from nonlocal sources, according to Bill Hartman, director of the Allen County Highway Department.

According to the approved resolution, the committed money would come from a Tax Increment Financing district in the area that includes Superior Aluminum Alloys and SDI LaFarga.
