Housing development proposed for Aboite
ROSA SALTER RODRIGUEZ | The Journal Gazette
Realtor and longtime Fort Wayne developer Mike Thomas and Oakmont Development are proposing a housing development and a personal-storage facility for the fast-developing corridor near and along Illinois Road in Aboite Township.
The Coves of Hawk Ridge would be made up of 48 single-family homes in the 13300 and 13400 blocks of Illinois Road, according to applications filed with the Allen County Plan Commission. The location is between West Hamilton and Noyer roads.
Jeff Thomas, coordinating the project, said the houses will be built by Westport Homes. The 26.3-acre site is zoned multiple-family residential but also allows single-family projects.
“It's actually zoned for apartments, but we're down-zoning. We're going for single-family homes,” Thomas said. That will reduce the density of new residents. He said he did not know the home values, and the project should start in the spring, if approval is gained.
In addition, Mike Thomas also has filed an application to amend a primary development plan for StorAmerica-Bridgewater, a self-storage village at 1405 Rock Dove Road, just south of Illinois Road. The location is near the proposed Coves Hawk Ridge.
Now proposed is 115,625 square feet in several new buildings on just over 9 acres.
Both projects will have a public hearing at 1 p.m. Nov. 9 in Room 30 of Citizens Square, 200 E. Berry St.
