Packed fall TV brings Julia Roberts, life after 'Roseanne'

LOS ANGELES – The fall TV season kicking off next week has something in common with movies: the same big-name actors.

Among the stars making their TV series debut: Julia Roberts, who's in the Amazon podcast-based drama "Homecoming."

Jim Carrey leads Showtime's "Kidding," and Emma Stone and Jonah Hill are paired in Netflix's "Maniac."

There are more familiar shows as well, including a remake of "Magnum P.I." and a revival of "Murphy Brown."

"The Conners" is ABC's attempt to salvage a show from the wreckage of last season's revival of "Roseanne."

With Roseanne Barr out, John Goodman and other cast members take center stage when it debuts next month.
