Chappelle to receive Twain Prize

Associated Press

Comedian Dave Chappelle has been chosen to receive this year's Mark Twain Prize for American Humor.

The 45-year-old Chappelle shot to international stardom through his Comedy Central program, “Chappelle's Show,” which gleefully skewered racial stereotypes and hot-button societal issues. He later made headlines for walking away from a lucrative contract over creative differences.

Kennedy Center President Deborah Rutter said his social commentary and body of work embody Twain's statement that “against the assault of humor, nothing can stand.”

Chappelle will be presented with the award in a star-studded ceremony Oct. 29. The ceremony will be broadcast on television Jan. 6, 2020.

CMT nominations

It's a wide-open field for this year's CMT Music Awards as four artists have a leading three nominations each: Brothers Osborne, Miranda Lambert, Maren Morris and Zac Brown Band.

Nominations for the awards, to be held on June 5 in Nashville, Tennessee, were announced Tuesday and fan voting is now open at Grammy-winning act Little Big Town, who are nominated for two awards, are returning for a second year as hosts for the show airing live on CMT from Nashville, Tennessee.

Carrie Underwood has the most awards in CMT history with 18 and she's nominated for video of the year and female video of the year.5

Disney schedule

Now armed with the upcoming releases of 20th Century Fox, the Walt Disney Co. on Tuesday set forth a shock-and-awe release schedule spanning the next eight years.

Since Disney's $71.3 billion acquisition of Fox was completed in March, the studio hadn't budged on the listed release dates of a number of Fox releases.

Included is James Cameron's long-delayed “Avatar 2,” which will now open in theaters on December 17, 2021, instead of its most recent date of December 18, 2020. The subsequent “Avatar” sequels have moved to 2023, 2025 and 2027, respectively.

Disney also dated three untitled “Star Wars” films to arrive in theaters in 2022, 2024 and 2026. The company hasn't revealed details of those projects. “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” director Rian Johnson is developing a new trilogy for the space saga.
