There's something unusual about that new girl with the red braids and tall socks.

Fire and Light Academy puts on “Pippi Longstocking” this weekend at the Salvation Army Community Center. The show, written by Harvey Cocks, includes Broadway showtunes and is performed by the Christian theater group's youth company.

Standing up against bullying is a key theme in the show, says administrative director Lisa Ellis who calls Pippi “a girl with a wonderful heart.”

Fire and Light has several other shows coming up this winter. Its high school program will present “Pride and Prejudice” on Jan. 26 and 27 and “Cinderella” on Feb. 2 and 3.
