Fort Wayne Parks & Recreation Department has promoted Steve McDaniel to director; Steve Schuhmacher, deputy director parks, maintenance; Mike Gore, superintendent, grounds and improvement; Dennis Hamilton, manager, buildings and grounds; Tiny Bultemeyer, director of finance; Alec Johnson, deputy director, planning and design; Kathy Pargmann, manager, lead of marketing; Chad Shaw, superintendent, landscape and horticulture; and Gregory Miller, supervisor, forestry.

Patricia Miller, co-founder of Vera Bradley Designs, was awarded an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree at IUPUI's commencement ceremony. Miller was Indiana's first secretary of commerce, appointed by then-Gov. Mitch Daniels in 2005.

Master Trooper Aaron W. Cook with the Indiana State Police Post in Fort Wayne was named District 22 Trooper of the Year, and Master Trooper Joel D. Lemmon received the department's Combat Action Award at a recent ceremony in Indianapolis.
