Central Noble girls win regional title


The Central Noble girls basketball team won its third straight Class 2A regional title, defeating North Judson 43-37 on Saturday at Caston.

The Cougars, the defending state champions, are the top-ranked team in the state. North Judson was No. 3.

Central Noble will next play Oak Hill at Logansport for the semistate.

With the victory, Central Noble will now move up in classification next season to 3A.

MARQUETTE 57, FREMONT 25: At Caston, Fremont was outscored 14-3 in the first quarter of the Class A regional final and was unable to make up the ground. After being down 32-15 at halftime, the Eagles were outscored 14-0 in the third quarter.

Bella Dangerfield led the Eagles with nine points on 3-of-6 shooting.

Marquette was paced by Sophia Nolan’s 16 points and eight rebounds.

Earlier in the day, Fremont defeated Pioneer 52-39 paced by Dangerfield’s 17 points.


WOODLAN 70, SOUTH ADAMS 32: At Berne, Joe Reidy’s 16 points paced the Warriors. Teammate Aiden Bayman had 15 points and six steals. Mitch Mendenhall added 13 points.

The Starfires’ Trey Schoch totaled 15 points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals.

CANTERBURY 80, SMITH 29: At Canterbury, Noah Drapala and Clayton Perry had 11 points apiece for the Cavaliers. Will Shank and Chris Diwis had 10 apiece.

Smith was led by JaJuan Gordon and Khyree Barella, who had 11 points each.

CARMEL 62, CARROLL 41: At Carroll, John Michael Mulloy led Carmel with 20 points on 6-of-8 shooting. Carroll’s David Ejah had 11 points on 4-of-10 shooting.


EAST CHICAGO SEMISTATE: Wawasee’s Geremia Brooks took first place at 132 pounds. Teammate Braxton Alexander took first at 138 pounds. Jace Alexander was third at 120 pounds.
