Homestead boys beat Carroll for regional tennis title

The Homestead boys tennis team defeated Carroll 5-0 Wednesday to claim back-to-back regional championships.

Homestead (16-1) was once again led by David Heiney at the No. 1 singles spot. The senior improved his record to 17-2 with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Luke Stoffel.

At No. 1 doubles, Tim Steiner and Bryant Zitlaw defeated Carroll's Tyler Gibson and Joshua Jackson 6-0, 6-1. Daniel Gilbert defeated Carroll's Grant Newman at No. 2 singles 6-1, 6-0 and Homestead's Andrew Meier defeated Max Carmody 6-0, 6-0. The match finished up at the No. 2 doubles spot where Homestead's Thaddeus Dressel and Landon Sather defeated Jonathan Hess and Ethan Koeneman 6-4, 6-1. The Spartans will play in the semi state Saturday.

In the individual portion of the tournament, Leo's Eli Herran and Isaac Steiner defeated Bluffton's Gabe Eisenhut and Mason Heller 6-0, 6-1.
