Dwenger's Ryan wins boys state golf title

JOURNAL GAZETTE

Bishop Dwenger's Logan Ryan won the 2018 state boys golf medalist honors Wednesday after winning a playoff at Prairie View in Indianapolis.

Ryan parred the first playoff hole, while Center Grove's Noah Gillard had a bogey. Both players shot a two-round total of 1-over 145 (72-73).

Making school history, Ryan is also the first Fort Wayne boys golfer to win state medalist honors since Elmhurst's Fred Link in 1941. The last player to accomplish the individual state championship from northeast Indiana was Warsaw's Tyler Ostrom in 2011.

The Saints finished in ninth with a 645, behind Carmel's first-place 601.
