Westfield boys win NECC track title

JOURNAL GAZETTE

The Westview boys track and field team won the NECC Championship at Churubusco on Friday, defeating the host Eagles 104-103.5. Angola was third with 102 points.

The Warriors were boosted by 1-2 performances in the 800-meter run, 1,600 and 3,200 with Matt Yoder winning the 800 in 1 minute, 58.81 seconds and the 1,600 (4:27.42). Richmond Stoltzfus won the 3,200 (9:46.89).

The Warriors also won the 3,200 relay in 8:17.28.

Churubusco's Mason Anderson won the 110 hurdles (15.49), Sam Wood won the 300 hurdles (41.05) and pole vault (14 feet, 4 inches) and Brayden Simmons won the shot put (51-10.25) and set a new meet record in the discus (173 feet).

Angola won the 400 relay (44.37), 1,600 relay (3:32.97)

Eastside's Trey Staley won the 100 (11.40), 200 (23.44) and long jump (19-6) and West Noble's Cade Barhydt won the 400 (51.97).

 

Softball

WAWASEE 17, PLYMOUTH 2: At Wawasee, the Warriors opened the game with 10 runs in the first.

Ava Rush hit two home runs and drove in six while going 3 for 4 with four runs scored. GraceAnne Kerlin added five RBI, going 3 for 4 including a home run and scoring twice.

Kiaundra Olson struck out three in five innings, giving up two earned runs on six hits.

Tennis

SNIDER 4, NORTHROP 1: Chloe Smithley defeated Abigail Wyman 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles and Abigail Schumm and Kelsey Matthias won 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (7-5) over Duyen Luc and Mallory Potter.

Neda Vaseski and Maggie Wyman won over Georgia Manges and Grace Saunders 6-2, 6-1 for the Bruins.

CONCORDIA 4, WAYNE 1: Lindsey Sgro defeated Stephanie Pozuelos 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles to lead the Cadets.

Moe Oo and Lin Khaing defeated Brooklyn Smith and Jadyn Stevens 4-6, 7-5 (10-8) at No. 1 doubles for the Generals.

Boys golf

BISHOP LUERS 160, WAYNE 216: At Brookwood, Stephen Bolan shot a 38 and Justin Albertson a 39 to lead the Knights.

Nick Chapman led the Generals with a 52.
