Wayne tops Dwenger in baseball

JOURNAL GAZETTE

The Wayne baseball team used a 4-run fifth inning to top Bishop Dwenger 10-7 at Shoaff Park on Friday.

Bishop Dwenger jumped to a 5-1 lead after two innings, but the Generals took a 7-6 lead with the go-ahead run coming in the midst of the fifth inning.

Andrew Rhodes led Wayne going 2 of 5 with two runs and an RBI while Bailey Salary added two runs and Drake Jones was 2 of 4 with two RBI and a run.

Kamden Boice gave up 7 runs, three earned, on 7 hits walked four and struck out five in a complete game win on the mound.

 

Tennis

BISHOP LUERS 4, DEKALB 1: At DeKalb, Caroline Rahrig defeated Bethany Lancaster 6-1, 6-0 for the Knights and Marie Burton earned the Barons' lone point with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Casey Woodfill.

CANTERBURY 4, ADAMS CENTRAL 1: Samantha Becker swept Maddy DeRoo 6-0, 6-0 for the Cavaliers while Saige Rinkenberger scored for the Flying Jets with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Carmen Gnagy.

HUNTINGTON NORTH 4, EAST NOBLE 1: Jessica Henline led the Vikings at No. 1 singles with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Hannah Denton.

The Knights scored at No. 3 singles when Sam Lay defeated Tarah Zumbrun 6-4, 6-2.

Softball

DEKALB 3, CARROLL 1: At Carroll, Gracey Yarian, Allison Marlow and Katherine Knepper scored for the Barons while Faith Ehmke gave up five hits, struck out five and walked one in seven innings of work on the mound.

Ava Nieuwlandt drove in Isabelle Dollens in the fifth inning for the Chargers.

Golf

WESTVIEW 166, GARRETT 183, CENTRAL NOBLE 211: At Heron Creek, Westview's Carter Giggy earned medalist honors, leading the Warriors with a 36 on the back nine.

Levi Follett's 39 led the Railroaders followed by Warren Joseph's 41 and Nick Alwine shot 45 to lead the Cougars.
