Wayne beats Carroll in final seconds

JOURNAL GAZETTE

Wayne's Kaylon Jarreau made a basket with 2.8 seconds remaining to lift the Generals past home Carroll 52-50 on Friday.

The teams were tied at 37 after the third quarter and Wayne (3-1, 2-0 SAC) managed to stay a step ahead throughout the fourth and had a 50-48 lead with 18.3 seconds left.

Arius Jones tied the game at 50 with 10 seconds left, and Jarreau made the most of the final possession to lift the Generals.

Craig Young led all scorers with 21 points, and Jarreau finished with 12 points for Wayne.

David Ejah had 15 and Dan McKeeman added 11 for Carroll (4-1, 1-1).

 

SOUTH SIDE 62, NORTHROP 40: At Northrop, Mikale Stevenson scored 17 points and had six assists, Trejean Didier added 15 points and Asher Blum 11 for the Archers (3-2, 1-1 SAC).

Qualen Pettus led the Bruins (2-4, 1-1) with 11 points.

HOMESTEAD 59, BISHOP LUERS 44: At Homestead, Onye Ezeakudo led the Spartans (3-3, 2-0 SAC) with 17 and Matt Podzielinski added 11.

Jaguar Jackson scored 11 for the Knights (0-4, 0-2).

BISHOP DWENGER 34, CONCORDIA 28: At Concordia, Hayden Smithy had 13 points and Lucas Lehrman added 10 for the Saints (3-1, 1-1 SAC).

Adam Gottschalk scored 12 for the Cadets (1-4, 0-2).

NEW HAVEN 70, BELLMONT 36: Zach Latham led the Bulldogs (3-2, 1-1 NE8) with 16 points, Davion Harris added 12 and James Gardner 11. Aaron Lehrman scored 11 for the Braves (1-5, 0-1).

WOODLAN 61, ADAMS CENTRAL 57: At Woodlan, Micah Robbins scored 21 and Aaron Hahn added 11 for the Warriors (2-1, 1-0 ACAC).

Johnny Carroll scored 18 to lead the Jets (3-3, 1-1).

BLUFFTON 63, SOUTHERN WELLS 47: At Bluffton, Max Corle scored 20, Johnathan Irwin added 17 and Everett Johnson 11 for the Tigers (1-4, 1-1 ACAC).

Thomas Biddle led the Raiders (2-5, 0-2) with 19.

HERITAGE 50, SOUTH ADAMS 41: At South Adams, Cameron Mitchell led the Patriots (4-1, 1-0 ACAC) with 14 points and LaMar Hudson Jr. added 10.

Andres Martinez scored 14 for the Starfires (2-3, 1-1).

WHITKO 65, TIPPECANOE VALLEY 46: At Whitko, River West scored 31 points and Brett Sickafoose added 17 for the Wildcats (4-3, 1-1 TRC).

Girls basketball

HOMESTEAD 47, BISHOP LUERS 36: At Homestead, Sydney Graber led the Spartans (10-1, 5-0 SAC) with 15 points and Sylare Starks added 14.

Kathryn Knapke had 15 points and Katelynn Gray added 10 for the Knights (6-4, 1-4).

Football

Former Northrop coach John Reid led his Rome (Georgia) High School team to a 38-0 win over Warner Robins to give his program its second consecutive Class 5A state championship.
