Early titles won at SAC track meet


A few championship titles were handed out on Wednesday at the SAC track and field championships at North Side. The remaining events will be decided Friday.

In girls events, Bishop Dwenger won the 3,200 relay in 10 minutes, 4.91 seconds, Northrop's Breanna Phillips defended her high jump title, clearing 5 feet, 4 inches, Alicia Tiney-Williams defended her title in the shot put with a throw of 42-11.5 and Bishop Dwenger's Grace Garrett won pole vault, clearing 9 feet.

Snider's Payton Gorman recorded the top time in the 100 and 200 trials with a 13.08 in the 100 and 27.02 in the 200.

KiMaya Houston of South Side is the top qualifier in the 100 hurdles with 15.53.

On the boys side, Northrop got wins in the 3,200 relay in 8:02.02 and from Shaton Vaughn in the long jump (21-3.25). Daniel Reyer Howe won the discus throw with 165-9.

Defending team champion Northrop leads team scores after the first day, leading Bishop Dwenger 54-33 on the girls side and 32-24 over Snider on the boys side.

Competition is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. Friday.
