Advancing Voices of Women plan Friday event

Advancing Voices of Women will host a reception for the inaugural Women's Political Institute 5:30 p.m. Friday at Sweetwater Sound, 5501 U.S. Highway 30.

Participants include 14 local women who are considering running for public office.

Speakers include former Fort Wayne Mayor Paul Helmke; Sara Jane Rose, founder and executive director of Sally's List of Oklahoma; Patricia Russo, executive director of the Women's Campaign School at Yale University; Jill Long Thompson, former U.S. Congresswoman; Marilyn Moran-Townsend, CEO of CVC Communications and AVOW Women's Campaign Institute co-chair; Brenda Gerber, former deputy finance director for the "Mike Pence for Indiana" campaign; Jeff Brantley, vice president of political affairs for the Indiana Chamber of Commerce and the Indiana Business for Responsive Government PAC; Paula Hughes-Smith, CEO of the YWCA of Northeast Indiana; Andrew Downs, director of the Mike Downs Center for Indiana Politics at Purdue University Fort Wayne.
