Canterbury grad Buckmaster drafted by New York Red Bulls

Rece Buckmaster, a Canterbury grad who recently completed his senior season at Indiana, was drafted by the New York Red Bulls in the second round of the MLS Super Draft on Friday.

Buckmaster, a defender who won state championships with the Cavaliers his freshman and sophomore years, played in all 24 matches this season and scored three goals as the Hoosiers reached the national semifinals. Indiana led the NCAA with 15 shutouts this season, allowing just 13 goals. 

Buckmaster was taken with the 32nd overall pick. His Indiana teammate Griffin Dorsey was taken by Toronto FC with the sixth overall pick. 

Notre Dame junior midfielder Tommy McCabe was drafted in the second round by FC Cincinnati. 

The final two rounds of the draft will be completed on Monday.
