The Purdue Fort Wayne men's volleyball will start the season tied for 14th as the American Volleyball Coaches Association released its 2019 Coaches Poll.
Purdue Fort Wayne is one of four MIVA teams to be ranked in the Top-15, joining No. 7 Lewis, No. 8 Ohio State and No. 9 Loyola Chicago. Ball State was the first team left out of the poll. The Mastodons will play six of the Preseason Top-15 teams: Lewis, Ohio State, Loyola, No. 10 UC Santa Barbara, No. 11 CSUN and No. 13 Stanford. Four of the six teams receiving votes will also play the Mastodons in 2019: Ball State, Penn State, George Mason and Princeton.
The Mastodons finished the 2018 season ranked No. 15 after an 18-11 season in which they did not fall to an unranked team at any point in the year. All of the student-athletes that started at least 24 contests in 2018 are returning for the 2019 season.
The first match of the season is on Jan. 4, when NJIT comes to Purdue Fort Wayne for a match on Arnie Ball Court.
