Young nets 22 as PFW women win opener

Senior De'Jour Young scored a game-high 22 points as the Purdue Fort Wayne women won their season-opener 87-50 over IU Kokomo on Tuesday.

On its annual Fitness Day, the Mastodons showed their own physicality in dominating points the in the paint, scoring 58 points to IU-Kokomo's 28. The Mastodons forced 26 turnovers, led by junior guard Sierra Bell, who notched eight steals in her first game with the team.

IU Kokomo's Lakyn Gulley, a South Side graduate, scored 17 points.

HUNTINGTON 78, HOLY CROSS 68: In Huntington, Sarah Fryman scored 29 points and Maddie Richer added 13 as the Forresters moved to 3-1. Alex Forster and Keysha Streater both scored 18 to lead Holy Cross (1-3).

INDIANA TECH 67, GRACE 49: In Winona Lake, Alexis Hill led the Warriors (3-1) with 16 points. Kamryn Hostetler scored 14 for the Lancers, who fell to 2-3.

Men

ST. FRANCIS 81, UM-DEARBRON 64: At the Hutzell Center, the Cougars improved to 1-1 behind Connor Lautzenheiser's 20 points and four rebounds. Jordan Matthews added 17 points and five rebounds.

HUNTINGTON 78, AQUINAS 57: In Grand Rapids, Konner Platt led the Forresters (3-1) with 22 points and seven rebounds.

GRACE 66, HOLY CROSS 55: In South Bend, Logan Godfrey's 17 points and six rebounds helped Grace improve to 3-0. Jaret Sons added 15 points for the Lancers. Jordan Gaines had 16 points for Holy Cross.

BALL STATE 86, INDIANA STATE 69: In Muncie, the Cardinals won in-state bragging rights over the Sycamores in the season-opener for both teams. Tahjai Teague led the way for Ball State with 21 points and Jordan Barnes and Tyreke Key led the way for Indiana State, scoring 16 apiece.
