Indiana defeats Purdue in WNIT Round of 16

BLOOMINGTON—The Indiana women's basketball team used a huge third quarter boost to defeat Purdue 73-51 in the third round of the Women's National Invitation Tournament at Assembly Hall on Thursday.
A 21-8 third quarter by the Hoosiers, including 11 straight to close the quarter, sealed Indiana's third victory over Purdue this season.
Indiana jumped to a 15-6 lead after the first five minutes, led by Jaelynn Penn's seven points.
After a timeout, Purdue responded with a 10-4 run with 3s from Karissa McLaughlin and Dominique Oden and a jumper from Andreona Keys to get within 19-16, but the Hoosiers closed the first quarter with a 23-16 lead.
Purdue got within three at 32-29 with 2:29 left in the second quarter, but 3s from Penn and Tyra Buss to close the quarter gave Indiana a 38-31 lead at halftime.
McLaughlin, who finished with eight points, six rebounds, was subbed out with five minutes left in the third quarter, ending her consecutive minutes streak at 365 straight minutes in 10 games.
Indiana was led by 24 points from Buss, 16 from Penn, Kym Royster added 12 and Bendu Yeaney 10.
Dominique Oden led Purdue with 20 points and Andreona Keys added 11.
The Hoosiers will play host to the winner of UC Davis and Kansas State at 2 p.m. Sunday.
