McKinney Jones likely back to Mad Ants

It looks as if Trey McKinney Jones will be back with the Mad Ants for a fourth season in five years, after he was signed Thursday by the NBA’s Indiana Pacers.
McKinney Jones, who injured his shoulder participating in NBA Summer League this year, is expected to be cleared to play early in the season. The Pacers, who own and operate the Mad Ants of the developmental NBA Gatorade League, also signed forward DeQuan Jones.
McKinney Jones, who was part of the Mad Ants’ 2014 championship team, averaged 16.6 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.2 assists in 48 games last season.
Like McKinney Jones, DeQuan Jones played collegiately at the University of Miami and played 63 games with the NBA’s Orlando Magic in 2012-13, averaging 3.7 points and 1.7 rebounds. He has G-League experience with Reno and spent the last three seasons playing overseas.
The Pacers have 19 players for their training camp roster. The Mad Ants, who open their season Nov. 4 at Uniondale, New York, against the Long Island Nets, are expected to have McKinney Jones, Alex Poythress, Edmond Sumner and Ben Moore on their roster. That could certainly change since only 13 of the Pacers’ players have guaranteed salaries.
