Irish win national honors

DYLAN SINN | The Journal Gazette

Notre Dame collected several national awards following its win over then-No. 7 Stanford on Saturday. Among those honored were defensive tackle Jerry Tillery and coach Brian Kelly.

Tillery won the Outland Trophy's National Defensive Player of the Week award after racking up four sacks and two quarterback hurries against the Cardinal. The senior had 4.5 sacks all of last season, but has seven and three forced fumbles this year.

Kelly, in his ninth season with the Irish, earned the Dodd Trophy Coach of the Week award as the country's best coach in Week 5. He led Notre Dame to a 38-17 win over Stanford with a quarterback who was making just his second start of the season.
