Irish add football recruit

JOURNAL GAZETTE

Notre Dame football added another commitment to its 2019 recruiting class Saturday when defensive end NaNa Osafo-Mensah chose the Irish over Texas.

Osafo-Mensah is the fourth defensive line recruit in the class and the highest-rated member of that group, ranking No. 7 on 247sports.com's defensive end list and No. 105 overall. The 6-foot-4 Texan is the 10th member of a class that ranks No. 8 in the country with his commitment.

The defensive end had an official visit to South Bend before the Blue-Gold game and had a chance to watch a practice.

"That was a big thing for me to see how the coaches are in practice," he told Blue and Gold Illustrated. "Seeing how the players were, what they do, how they scrimmage and all that. It was pretty similar to how we practice.

"The tempo was higher as it was a college practice, but I liked it because (defensive line) Coach (Mike) Elston incorporates so many different things that he teaches in the film room."
