Irish get 3-star safety recruit
DYLAN SINN | The Journal Gazette
Notre Dame continued its string of recruiting successes Tuesday when three-star 2019 safety Kyle Hamilton announced he'd committed to play for the Irish.
Hamilton, an Atlanta native, currently plays at Marist High School and had offers from a wide variety of elite programs, including Ohio State, Georgia and Michigan.
"Very excited to announce that I am committed to the University of Notre Dame," Hamilton wrote on Twitter. "Thank you to everyone that has helped me get to this point. Go Irish! #FightClub19"
The 6-foot-3 defensive back is not as highly-touted as some of the other Notre Dame commits in recent days, with 247sports.com ranking him the No. 54 safety in the country and the No. 66 player in talent-rich Georgia. He does have plenty of upside, however, checking in with a 35-inch vertical leap as a high school junior.
He becomes the eighth commits in Notre Dame's 2019 class and fifth in the last five days. The run of commitments has vaulted the Irish's class to No. 12 nationally.
“It’s just one of those schools, there’s not many like them in the country,” Hamilton told 247sports.com's Steve Wiltfong of Notre Dame. “It separates itself from other colleges with the tradition and the alumni network. It’s a global university and the football program, it’s pretty much the heart of that school and everybody loves the program and it’s a big thing to be part of.”
