Notre Dame's Drue Tranquill was announced Tuesday as a semifinalist for the Wuerffel Trophy.
The award, named after former Florida quarterback Danny Wuerffel, is presented annually to the Football Bowl Subdivision player who "best combines exemplary community service with academic and athletic achievement."
Tranquill, a Carroll graduate, is majoring in mechanical engineering and has been extremely involved in service activities. He serves as a mentor for the Core Leadership Team for Lifeworks Ministry and is an athlete ambassador for Dream Teams. He also launched the "5th Quarter" postgame event to interact with the South Bend community at the Granger Oasis Church.
Finalists for the Wuerffel Trophy will be announced Nov. 22.
