Four-star recruit Shayne Simon, a safety at Saint Peter's Prep in Jersey City, New Jersey, announced his commitment to Notre Dame.

"I want to offer gratitude to God, my family, friends, teammates and coaches for all their support," Simon wrote in a message posted to his Twitter account Tuesday night. "After a long and difficult deliberation, I am excited to announce that I have decided to attend the University of Notre Dame."

Listed at 6-foot-3 and 200 pounds, Simon reportedly chose the Irish over Michigan, Ohio State and Wisconsin, among others. He will be a senior this fall and is scheduled to arrive at Notre Dame for the 2018 season.

"Building something special in South Bend!!!" Mike Elko, Notre Dame's defensive coordinator, tweeted shortly after Simon's announcement.
