Cheek could make difference for K's

JUSTIN A. COHN | The Journal Gazette

The single biggest question I’ve gotten over the last few days has been: Can Trevor Cheek really impact this series that much?

Yes.

The Komets, who are tied with the Colorado Eagles at 1 heading into tonight’s Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals, are as beat up as any team I’ve covered. Yes, Cheek is too, since he’s coming down from an American Hockey League playoff, but just having another usable body is important.

But Cheek’s style fits this series. He’s fast. He’ll hit. And he can pick up the scoring slack with guys such as Shawn Szydlowski slowed and Daniel Maggio suspended.

By the way, the referees are slated to be Sean Fernandez and Jeremy Tufts. Fernandez is the most hated referee in Fort Wayne these days because of inconsistencies, bad calls and accusations that he won’t communicate with the bench. The same claims have been made by other teams. It will be interesting to see the reception and if he lives up to his reputation or surprises us.
