Full Komets schedule out, weird again

JUSTIN A. COHN | The Journal Gazette

The Komets may be embroiled in the Western Conference finals – tied at 1 with the defending-champion Colorado Eagles heading into Wednesday’s 7:30 p.m. game at Memorial Coliseum – but we now know the full schedule for next season.

Here's what sticks out: After Jan. 25, the Komets play Toledo and Indy only three times apiece, and only once each at the Coliseum. I know this is a hard job putting the schedule together, but that borders on silly.

The 72-game slate will begin Oct. 12 against Indy in Indianapolis and end April 7 at the Coliseum against Wheeling. The home opener will be Oct. 20 against Kalamazoo.

The most common opponent will be Kalamazoo with 13 games. The Komets will face Cincinnati, Indy and Toledo 11 times.

The Komets will play at new team St. John’s, Newfoundland, Feb, 8, 9 and 10. There’s also a three-game trip to Rapid City, South Dakota, Nov. 7, 9 and 10.

The Thanksgiving and New Year’s Eve games at the Coliseum will be against the Brampton Beast.

The Komets will face 13 of the league’s 26 teams next season. And, no, there will be no games against Colorado because the Eagles are moving to the American Hockey League.
