K's pregame thoughts
JUSTIN A. COHN | The Journal Gazette
The Komets are readying to play the Indy Fuel at 7:30 p.m. at Memorial Coliseum. The Komets are on an 11-1-1 run. They are coming off Sunday’s 4-3 loss to Quad City in an overtime shootout, despite Fort Wayne racking up 63 shots on the Mallards. Quad City got two goals off breakdowns on faceoff coverage and that’s something the Komets have been emphasizing improving lately.
Here’s a player to watch: Cody Sol. I don’t know that I’ve ever seen the Komets’ blue-liner play better. While he still has this reputation of being a goon elsewhere around the league, nothing could be further from the truth. He’s one of the league’s best defensemen now, and has one of the hardest shots in the league.
Another player who has performed well under the radar is Justin MacDonald. He doesn’t get much Ice time but has been capitalizing when he gets a chance.
Elsewhere, former Komets coward Garrett Klotz was suspended eight games by the ECHL for a cross-checking incident. He now plays for Kansas City and it took place against Toledo.
