ECHL update: Walleye, Monarchs win
JUSTIN A. COHN | The Journal Gazette
The Eastern and Western Conference finals kicked off today in the ECHL and the Manchester Monarchs beat the South Carolina Stingrays 2-1, while the Toledo Walleye took down the Colorado Eagles 4-2.
In the Toledo game, the script will seem somewhat familiar to Komet fans. Toledo was 1 for 4 on power plays. Colorado was 0 for 3. Jeff Lerg had 30 saves and had to be big in the third period, when Colorado had 9 of 13 shots but allowed the only goal.
Alex Belzile, the former Komets forward, scored for Colorado, after it had allowed three straight goals to fall behind 3-1 at the Huntington Center, in front of 7,153 fans. Belzile had a game-high seven shots on goal.
