K's keys for Game 3

JUSTIN A. COHN | The Journal Gazette

MOLINE, Illinois — Getting ready for Game 3 between the Komets and the Quad City Mallards. Interesting note: the Mallards used to have the worst press box in all of hockey, right behind the glass. It sounds good and it was cool for about five minutes, until you realize you couldn't see 70 percent of the game and it was incredibly loud. The press box, I'm told, is in a better spot now.

Here are my keys for tonight if the Komets wants to take a 3-0 series lead:

-- Keep up the huge edge in shots, as it's taking the game to the Mallards.

-- Be careful with the passing. The Mallards are doing a good job of intercepting in Fort Wayne's zone and eventually they're going to turn that into goals.

-- Keep Pat Nagle clear. The Mallards will eventually start getting traffic in front of the goalie.

-- Maintain the physical play that has given the Komets the edge in forechecking, but stay out of the penalty box.

-- Continue creating offense from behind the net and in the corners; making C.J. Motte move a lot side to side is paying off.

-- Be careful on the faceoffs. The Komets have been cheating and getting caught a lot on faceoffs, which is why players have been getting tossed from the circle. On the road, though, the Mallards will get the last line changes and have the players it wants on the ice, so the Komets don't need to help it along by losing draws.

-- The Komets have two power play goals but they aren't generating enough shots on special teams.
