TinCaps' Tucupita Marcano honored
DYLAN SINN | The Journal Gazette
TinCaps infielder Tucupita Marcano is coming off a huge week and the Midwest League recognized him for it, awarding him Player of the Week honors.
Marcano, 19, hit .538 (14 for 26) and slugged .654 from April 29-May 5, driving in three runs and adding a double, triple and two walks. Against the Kane County Cougars on April 30, Marcano went 4 for 5 with two RBI, his first career four-hit game.
"I’m very grateful for this award,” Marcano said in a statement. "I’m happy that the results are showing from the hard work and help being put in by my coaches and teammates. I hope to keep helping the team and putting my best effort forward."
Marcano, who got a night off in Monday's win over Wisconsin, has an active 13-game on-base streak and seven-game hit streak. His slap hits that work their past the pitcher and give him chances to pick up infield hits are some of the TinCaps' most exciting plays. He's second in the Midwest League in hits with 33 in 27 games.
"Tucu is a special talent," TinCaps manager Anthony Contreras said. "We’re glad to see his hard work rewarded and we’re excited to see him continue to develop as an all-around player."
