TinCaps swept by South Bend


SOUTH BEND – Brandon Hughes hit a three-run home run in the fifth inning, leading the South Bend Cubs to a 6-1 win over the TinCaps on Thursday. The Cubs (29-29) swept the three-game series with the win.

The home run by Hughes scored Austin Filiere and Michael Cruz to break a scoreless tie.

The TinCaps (26-32) cut into the deficit in the seventh inning when Robbie Podorsky hit an RBI single, driving in Gabriel Arias.

Jeffrey Passantino (2-0) got the win in relief while Fort Wayne starter Tom Cosgrove (1-3) took the loss. Yapson Gomez pitched two scoreless innings for his first save of the season.
