Game 1: TinCaps vs. Quad Cities
CHRIS GOFF | The Journal Gazette
Leaves on trees are beginning to change color, and there's a baseball game tonight at Parkview Field. Go figure.
For the first time since 2012, the Midwest League Championship Series is back in downtown Fort Wayne.
No surprises on the TinCaps' 25-man roster for this best-of-five showdown with Quad Cities, who defeated Cedar Rapids in three games in the Western Division Championship Series.
Relief pitcher Jordan Guerrero, who had not pitched for Fort Wayne this postseason, comes off the roster to clear a spot for Pedro Avila, who will start Game 1.
As for the rest of the TinCaps' rotation, they list Adrian Morejon as the starter for Game 3 on Saturday night at Modern Woodmen Park in Davenport, Iowa. If necessary, a Game 4 start would go to Reggie Lawson, and Michel Baez is listed for a potential Game 5.
That leaves Game 2 as the lone remaining mystery. The choice would appear to come down to Lake Bachar, Jim McDade and Ronald Bolanos, the three other guys on the roster who have pitched in a starting role for Fort Wayne this year.
Quad Cities' roster includes one mild surprise. Colin Moran, a third baseman from the River Bandits' parent club, the Houston Astros, will continue his minor league rehabilitation assignment. He is expected to stay with the River Bandits for the duration of this series, the River Bandits said, which seems to provide a significant boost.
Moran, 24, has played in 11 big league games. He's been in each of the River Bandits' six playoff games and dominated, as a .981 OPS would attest. The lefty-swinging Moran is hitting second in the order tonight as the DH.
Here's Fort Wayne's lineup:
Jack Suwinski CF
Nate Easley RF
Hudson Potts 3B
Brad Zunica 1B
Marcus Greene Jr. C
Jorge Oña DH
Gabriel Arias SS
Robbie Podorsky LF
Justin Lopez 2B
First start: Buddy Reed is on the bench as manager Anthony Contreras is taking a chance on Podorsky to fill out the outfield. He joined the TinCaps the day before the playoffs began and has yet to get an at-bat at the low-A level.
Here's the rest of Quad Cities' lineup:
Chas McCormick CF
Colin Moran DH
Troy Sieber 1B
Chuckie Robinson C
Abraham Toro-Hernandez 3B
Josh Rojas RF
J.J. Matijevic LF
Kristian Trompiz SS
Bryan De La Cruz RF
Weather watch: A half-hour before first pitch, the tarp remained down on the infield. However, according to Weather.com there is only a 15 percent chance of rain during the game.
